Reflection – Exhibitions & Residency

We are delighted to have artist Larain Briggs & the Aletheia Art Collective back at the Harwich Arts & Heritage Centre from the 1st February, right through to the 29th. Read more below:

Featuring artists, Larain Briggs, Jamie Limond, Dawn Hesketh-Joslin in the Room 6 Gallery at the Harwich Arts and Heritage Centre, Main Road, Dovercourt, CO12 4AJ. The centre provides an exciting venue that supports a wide range of activities for the local community.

The participating multi-disciplinary artists are fine art doctorate students with diverse backgrounds in education, architecture and engineering. They are collectively interested and inspired by psychology, philosophy and an exploration of the inner realm. Larain Briggs, the organiser and co-founder of the Aletheia Art Collective, is a local artist exploring the potential of art to create a sense of well-being and transform the self in response to a rapidly changing and destabilised world. Jamie Limond another co-founder of the Aletheia Art Collective is profoundly influenced by a life-altering diagnosis that heightened his awareness of mortality. As an experienced sailor and navigator his journeys are a metaphor that inspire his creative practice. Dawn Hesketh-Joslin focuses on the interplay of constructed forms, colour, light, and shadow, exploring the boundaries and intersections of architecture, art, and human experience.

Larain Briggs will be inviting the public to join in collaborative drawing which will contribute to an exhibition and installation. The installation, a labyrinth of mirrors in Room 9 invites the audience to explore a reflective journey through the space where artworks are incorporated. Her digital and traditional paintings on canvas are also exhibited in the Foyer in a separate exhibition.

Jamie Limond will be demonstrating wooden spoon sculpting and modelling and discussing his breathtaking circumnavigation of the UK and Ireland. Dawn Hesketh-Joslin will be conducting a workshop in two-dimensional to three-dimensional design and sharing her fascinating research into somatic writing and inspirational journeys across the UK, Europe, China, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia.

The artists will be based in The Gallery at Room 6 with exhibition and installation extending throughout the centre.
