December Shows On Sale Now

The Harwich Festival is proud to present two amazing shows this December

Dutch Jazz Trio ‘Under the Surface’ will be live at The Harwich Arts and Heritage Centre on Thursday 16th December. Doors at 6.30pm, performance starts at 7pm. Ticket price includes a glass of mulled wine.

Under The Surface are Joost Ljibaart, drums and percussion; Bram Stadhouders, electric guitar; and Sanne Rambags, vocals. Together they weave a magical and enthralling tapestry of soundscapes incorporating song and the spoken word. The listener is taken to an almost dreamlike new reality. The adventurous, mystical and experimental trio have taken their sonic explorations as far afield as Asia, Africa, South America and the Middle East, as well as closer to home in their home country the Netherlands and throughout the UK. The group’s Harwich Art and Heritage Centre date is the final one of a short tour taking in Nottingham, Newcastle, Bath and Birmingham. The listener can expect an exhilarating performance like no other.

Undoubtedly one of the leading harpists in the world today, Alina Bzhezhinska is a one-woman powerhouse, on a mission to bring the harp to the fore of contemporary sound. A jazz harpist, composer, band leader and a founder of the digital platform HipHarpCollective, she’s also trying to remarket the harp in 2021. Alina studied classical harp at the F Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. She went on to become the resident harp tutor at the prestigious Royal Conservatory of Scotland for seven years. She performed at Balmoral Castle for the Queen’s 80th birthday and has played at such iconic venues as the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican, the Globe Theatre and Ronnie Scott’s, alongside prestigious appearances at the Edinburgh International Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival. “Alina Bzhezhinska is a modern-day supremo, among the best contemporary harpists.” — London Evening Standard. For her Harwich Arts and Heritage Centre date, Alina will be accompanied by double bassist Julie Walkington. Julie studied at London’s Guildhall School of Music and has played both electric and acoustic base in various rock, folk, indie and jazz groups throughout the UK and USA.
